Why every single movie I ever want to see, including this one, is not available or is really difficult to find in theatres or otherwise?(city of god, the machinist, coffee and cigarettes, osama,) Why are these movies always held back from the public? It says this film has already been out since 2004, so why cant you find it anywhere?
Perhaps because you live in BFE? Seriously, one sometimes has to go to the culture as opposed to waiting for the culture to come. Move to New York City. We've got plenty of room ;)
because movie distributors only care about one thing -- making money. if they actually thought for a second that the majority of the american public would pay money to see a brilliant, challenging, and beautiful epic film, then you can bet "the beautiful country" would be in every cinemark, tinseltown, and regal theater in the country. but they know that "john and jane q. public" are never going to see this movie. john and jane q. are going to see "the dukes of hazzard," and that's if they decide to get off their lazy arses in the first place.
money. it's the answer to any question.
PS i live in Austin where "the beautiful country" opened this weekend (8/6/05), and the theater was pretty full. so you never know, if it catches on, it might go to smaller towns, but probably not.
Yes honey it's true, basically movie theatres sell movies that make them big money. Stories like this are hard to find because movie theatres know they'll probably lose money because few people want to see them (they're too real or sad). It's easier in cities because there is a lot of ethnic and racial diversity and many more people will get excited and go out to see movies of this quality.
It's playing in Tulsa. T-U-L-S-A. Just 400,000 people, very conservative culturally, and only a small Vietnamese community. If it's playing there, it must be playing in many smaller cities.
This is an art house movie. It would be a large commercial success, so it won't see wide release. I happen to live in a place where they show many non-commercial movies.
