So what happens after the fire?

Did he go to jail? Did he die? What happened to him?

"I have so many problems I think about killing myself, but that wouldn't solve them all."

I guess he was imprisioned (there are a couple of scenes of Police interviewing his friends), not sure though, since I know nowt about the case the film was based on...

I think I must have one of those faces you can't help believing.

reply

I bet he committed suicide, that's what I'd expect from this kind of guy.

Nope. I don't think the movie tells us what exactly happened after the fire (it's been a while since I saw it), but at least Jean-Claude Romand, the man the movie is based on and who indeed fooled everyone for eighteen years before doing pretty much what Jean-Marc Faure in the movie ended up doing, is now in prison.

reply

Since we don't get to see him in prison, I concluded he did in fact die.

But seeing as this Romand fellow survived, I guess it's at least up to the viewer to dedice.

That Romand must be quite a loon to be able to live with himself after what he did.

I am not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

Jean-Claude Romand (the real murderer on whose life this movie is based) was caught by police and currently is in prison. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

In the movie is not explained what happened to him. French audience won't have any problem about it since they know the aftermath, but people from different countries could not know what happened to him. Well, as I've told you the real murderer is in jail.

reply

The real murderer is in prison but eligible for parole in 2015.
