Got to admit I stumbled onto this while crashed out on the sofa nursing a 3 day hangover...And I thoroughly enjoyed it, everything about it had me hooked from the start, Ok maybe first of all it might have been because I couldn't be bothered to reach for the remote, but Im so glad I didn't now.

Actually, the first time I saw it I was hungover too. Fortunately, it was not necessary for me to look for water and food on the wild Crete´s landscape to "heal" myself hehehe.

didn't understand it till after an hour, it was hardly explained which war it was
WW I or II, no german was seen in the whole mini-series (sorry, 1 on a motorbike..but he wasn't the epitome of Nazi evil).
Why??

It felt like an anti-war movie or how to screw up yr service/dodge the front..or something, was it intended as bad spotlight on Great Britain and it's army?

Daniel/Crouchback is seen as wanting to go the front/war. He goes to Scotland,Krete, Yugoslavia & Italy without ever running into any enemy.
This really is fiction!

SPOILERS ahead!

His ex(wife)was 1 of many strange characters, first you start to despise her as a tramp/slut, then she tries to survive w other men, finally going for help to Crouchback as last resort. They rekindle their love just like that??

Major Fido Hound was a more understandable figure, he fled out of starvation & ended up w the wrong party.

Brigadier Ritchie-Cook was one of the best actors/characters in the movie!
Robert Pugh was excellent as over-the-top drill sergeant!

Trimmer McTavish was fine as well, he got what he deserved.

Nice but strange pov of the British,
the parts of bombed London were interesting.
