character choice?

Ok I stopped playing tekken after tekken 2 so maybe I'm biased. I'm genuinely interested to hear people's opinions on this. There were enough characters in tekken 2, plus secondary characters to make a bleeding decent film. I personally think that mortal kombat worked because, for the most part, they only used main characters that everyone knew. yet every tekken film seems to focus on really odd choices while well known original characters get either a few seconds on screen doing nothing, or left out entirely. if this is to service the plot I can completely understand...Many of the back stories are quite insular and wouldn't contribute to a film narrative. However, instead of picking characters in order to build a strong, cohesive narrative, they write a disjointed nonsensical plot...With all the wrong characters (imo)

for instance, this film somehow squeezes alex into the plot, Alex ffs and yet there's one scene with king, paul and baek where they say and do, Nothing!... and that's it for them in this movie. What the hell!?
