boyz in da hood is definitely not gritty in my opinion. id reccomend menace II society, which is very dark and grim. henry: portrait of a serial killer has a low budget, dark feel like this movie. gomorra also has a down-to-the-streets, realistic feel.
shareBody of Lies and Pride and Glory are both fantastic films in my opinion (They were not recived well by critics). I'd say Pride and Glory is a little more gritty than Body of Lies.
