John Carpenter's role?

What is John Carpenter's role in this film, if he didn't direct it? I should have realized that "John Carpenter Presents" on the cover was just a way of getting Carpenter fans to buy the DVD.

He's listed as "executive producer" on the back. What does that mean, anyway? That's he presents it?

Although not financially successful, the original Vampires made a lot of money on video/DVD so the studio wanted another one. Carpenter didn't want to write/direct it since he was busy with other project so he gave his buddy Tommy Lee Wallace the job. Carpenter stayed on as executive producer with limited involvement. His duty was mainly to support Wallace. Despite Carpenter's name on the project, the studio still decided to premiere it on cable instead of giving it a theatrical release like it deserved. Hope that helps you a bit.

I happen to have bought the movie on DVD with the directors comments. He tells a little bit about the involvement of Carpenter. This is from my memory: Carpenter seemed to have remained in the background. TWallace and Carpenter seemed to have discussed the movie. One discussion was whether it should both be a sequel and not. It is a sequel in so far that the heroes in the carpenter moved south(in the direction of mexico) and that the head vampire in this movie tries to become resistent to sun with the same procedure as in the first movie. (Note: never saw carpenter movie).
Apperently the wife of Carpenter seems to have been involved in the script, but to what extent Wallace doesn't explain.
Wallace remarks at several time that things where left out or altered against his intention. One he remarks that the Studio wanted it.

What is John Carpenter's role in this film ...
I think he may have just collected some royalty cheques. This film is just a pale imitation of the first.🐭
