Ken Burns, makes every topic benign

As far as historians go, Burns only explores things he can make seem benign with a folk tune on a violin. These topics are way more exciting than his somnambulistic, calm filter transforms them. Burns stuff reeks of "the official story."

I'd love to learn about the skillful use of the Congress. That doesn't happen here. If Congress is interesting, stay on the topic and speak about it. Instead Burns is too busy telling a story full of novelties and sideshow political shenanigans. He can't wait to leave the congress, to talk generally about history or the building. Here's the underground tram, here's the dome, here's a history of eccentrics... Very little of this focuses on Congress and how it works.

Burns tears the life out of topics. Or at least he used to on GM's dime.
