Why is this so rare?

Claymation Christmas is the only real holiday tradition my family has; it's just not Christmas without it. Why is it never on broadcast television? It seems they play almost every other christmas themed show to death, but I haven't seen this one since the 80's. Does anybody know what gives?

reply

I don't understand why they don't play it anymore but you can buy it on amazon.com for less than $20. At least now people can buy it.

I JUST ORDERED IT YESTERDAY FROM AMAZON.COM. I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS SHOW A WEEK AGO AND REMEMBERED WATCHING IT WHEN I WAS LITTLE. BOY HOW TIME FLIES, THAT WAS LIKE 100 YEARS AGO!!!!

This show and the Garfield Christmas show used to come back in the 80's. But sadly, the Claymation Christmas show and the Garfield Christmas show are never shown. I think the shows would still do well if shown today.

A favorite at our house too. It's not Christmas without multiple watchings of our tape with Rudolph, Garfield Christmas, Claymation Christmas, A Child's Christmas in Wales (with Denholm Elliott--WONDERFUL!), and It's a Wonderful Life.
I edited out the commersials when we taped it (in 1987!) but we still have Bill Curtis' voice warning us that the temperature might reach 20 below zero tonight!
Ah, memories :-)

I have this on the same tape as Garfield Christmas, from 1991, the last year that Claymation aired in the states, I believe. But my sister got me the DVD in 2004 and I watch that every year now. :)

I think it has to do with the California Raisins. The Rasins are 80's icons and are also advertising characters and so that probably has a lot to do with it. It's dated, but in a good way.

Odd that something as popular as this is no longer aired.

I think it's because of the religious songs that the show contains (We Three Kings, Angels We Have Heard on High, and Joy to the World.) Our politically correct society doesn't want to offend people so that's probably why so many Christmas specials with even a hint of religion in them no longer air.

reply

Yeah, could be. I'm not particularly religious, but am also not in the least offended by the religious songs around Christmas. It's what I grew up with. Anyways, I used to have Claymation Christmas on a Beta Tape, but the tape player died and I never copied it over. Guess I'll have to fork over the cash on Amazon.

my god its full of stars

I don't get why they don't show this a lot either. This, Santa Bear's Highflying Adventure and Garfield Christmas Special don't show up on TV that much and that's disappointing because they are really good Christmas specials that I think any generation would love.
