my tradition :)

I grew up watching the same tape of christmas specials my parents made when I was born in 87. This is on it. I love it. It's not christmas without it.

my brother and i too!!! we would recite the whole thing, including the clips of commercials from when our parents didn't stop recording in time lol! we're dorks :0)

reply

i hear you. my family breaks out the original 80s vhs every year (that also includes 'a child's christmas in wales', disney's 'from all of us to all of you', and the charlie brown christmas special), and we have as much fun watching the commercials as we do the christmas specials. i think i have them memorized too: the bell commercial with the telephones under the christmas tree 'ringing' jingle bells, the one for isatoner gloves with the woman going round-and-round in the department store door, the bank of nova scotia fisherman, vision pots and pans by corning ware etc. (my parents obviously taped it in the evening - no toy commercials!)

anyways, it's a great show, and christmas just isn't the same without it!

reply

haha, yeah. All of those too, even the commercials. My favourite commercials were the "My First Sony" and also "Crispy Critter" with that Jimmy Durante like animal thing. haha golden.

reply

this site has some of the old commercials on it http://www.retrojunk.com/

I do as well. We lost the tape that had this on it so I finally broke down and bought it on dvd. I can't wait to start watching it again until Christmas.

reply

Same here. EVERY holiday season it's a MUST SEE. I, too, used to recite the television commercials that I taped right along with the show until one year I recorded it off of the Disney Channel, and it didn't have commercials. Good to know we can buy it now on Amazon, b/c my VCR is BROKEN!!!!

Here we come a-waffling, so fair to be seen.
Love and joy come to you,
And to you, your waffle, too.

That was one of my favorite parts of the whole thing.

Waddling.

Yeah, this is also one of my traditions. I watch this one about once or twice every year. My dad taped it for me in 1991, along with the Garfield Christmas Special, when I was 3. Some day when I have kids, I want to show this to them as well. :)

I love Jesus Christ and am 100% proud!

reply

That's just how I feel. 1987 was the year it first broadcast and I've watched it every year since.

reply

I was born in '87 too! I grew up on this.

reply

I too was born in 1987. In fact I was only 11 days old when this first aired but my cousin recorded it during it's original airing and gave me the tape so I grew up watching it. It's still part of my Holiday Tradition.

reply

It's our tradition, too. (and we are all senior citizens) LOL
