So am I the only person who absolutely loved this movie?

Judging by the reviews and other comments, it seems like everybody hates this movie. I thought this was a great movie and one of the best ones I have seen lately. Anyone else agree?

I loved it as well. I caught in on HBO a few years ago, and went looking for it on DVD recently. I found it in the 5.99 bin at Gamestop. I consider it one of the quiet gems of my collection.

I like it too, it's very entertaining.

Entertaining but not great. Redford was adequate for Redford. Gandolfini was a little wooden.

No your not alone. Maybe few of us, but some of us who appreciate a movie that shows a battle that takes place on several fronts. Redford and Galdofini play their roles with the required texture. Galdofini is a touch wooden, but then one might expect that of someone who lives and breaths military. Redford has heart and a deep patriotic soul, and is surrounded by a great supporting cast. What's not to love.

Add to that the time period that this movie came out in, when there was the rise in patriotic feelings that followed 9/11 and it's a touch of a suprise that this movie did not do better as far as ticket sales.

This movie is ridiculously AMAZING. I don't know why people have a problem with it. The only issue I had was that Gandolfini played Winter as being more pathetic than sadistic the majority of the time.

i agree lol. irwin owned him in the takeover hahaha.

i gave it a 7. then again, i dont watch movies like most people. i think movies start as 10's and have to loose points, rather than start as a 0 and gain points.

This type of movie, which starts with a an artificially ridiculous premise, works when it can convince you to suspend disbelief. This movie did not do that, as hard as it tried. The theme of prisoners overcoming oppressive authority has been done much better in many movies. So I can appreciate why many people dislike this movie.
But Robert Redford's performance was near great, making this movie was oddly compelling to watch a 2nd time, something I don't normally do. So the IMDB rating is about right.

This is easily one of my favorites of all time. Anytime I see it coming on TV, or if I flip to it in the middle, I'll happily sit and watch it until the end. I would recommend it to anybody, though I can see why it wouldn't be enjoyed by everyone.

I love it but I'm not always critical enough to be a critic. To truly judge a work you must be demanding. Also, keep in mind that even the best movies of all time are significantly brought down by jerks who vote 1.
