Borrowed scenes/ideas

Watching this film, I realised that pretty much all the ideas were borrowed from other films - some scenes almost directly! These are the ones I identified - did anyone spot some I missed?

New Santa unable to remember the name of the head elf - "The Santa Clause"

New Santa identified from a list of suitable candidates which was narrowed down until only one name remained - "Ernest saves Christmas"

Retiring Santa has to convince his replacement to take the job before it's too late - also "Ernest saves Christmas"

Cynical producer from a home shopping chanel recruits and eccentric spokesman who ends up turnig their life around - "Holy Man"

Santa auditions - could have been lifted directly from "Santa Who?"

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching this film I just like picking up the homages and references to other films - anyone spot any others?

I remember reading an article about an author who wrote a book that a lot of people felt like there was a lot of references to one of the main characters being like Jesus Christ. The author had no intention of it being like that but she went back through reading the book again she wrote with the religious references in the back of her mind and was quite surprised to find how many were there when she was looking for them.

Just because you find certain things in a book, movie or whatever doesn't mean that it was intentional. Ever heard of coincidence?

Are you sure the same thing isn't happening here?

I agree with Laceyyy. Maybe you're just looking too hard.

P.S. The only thing that I found interesting was that the people of the movie were looking for someone to play "Santa" and actually found the real one. Miracle on 34th Street

I did see similarities to Miracle on 34th Street, kind of like this being a more modern version of Miracle on 34th Street. But there are enough difference to make this a fun movie on it's own

I noticed that too. 34th St with the Proof of Santa. The Santa Clause with the Replacement Santa. Scrooge with Lucy's sad childhood past being brought up.

reply

I thought Lucy's "inability" to not remember Ralph's name was more her making fun of him rather than her really not being able to remember.

& I haven't seen the other films you mentioned, so... But good spots.
