Kris Kringle???

I heard in several xmas movies the name Kris Kringle;
does anyone know in what country they call Santa Claus, Kris Kringle???
In this movie Santa says Holland, but that's wrong.
Holland is first of all a province not a country; the country is the Netherlands, and I'm from the Netherlands but we (Dutch) never ever called Santa, Kris Kringle; we call him Sinterklaas.
So where do they call him Kris Kringle?

reply

an American (mis-)pronunciation of Christkindl or Christkindel, the German Christmas gift-bringer

Round up the usual suspects ... 'specially that damn Kevin Spacey

I know this is quite awhile after you posted, but I happened upon this (looking up Nigel Hawthorne's credits), and was glad to learn the info you gave (assuming it is correct, which seems likely). I've wondered what was up with the additional Santa name of Kris Kringle, but never looked it up. Although I speak German and have lived in Germany, this explanation never occurred to me. Thanks for that, and I hope to get to see this movie sometime.

Multiplex: 100+ shows a day, NONE worth watching. John Sayles' latest: NO distribution. SAD.

In the US, we use Holland and The Netherlands interchangeably for the name of the country, however wrong that may be.

A lot of people from the province of Holland are fine with it but people in the other provinces don't like it too much haha.
