Confusing as heck plot -- forget it.

I knew it was a bad sign when the film started with Chess. I can't play chess so wouldn't know whether the moves were correct or not.
Did he do the wrong move and that's why the countdown started and he had to jump out the window to escape the explosion? On reality I doubt that would have saved him. The force of the blast would surely kill you even if the flames didn't touch you.
He also got shot at one point and seemed to recover quickly.
What was the point in Henry Rollins' character Gaines? He was in the film for under two minutes. Do you think a lot more was filmed and then discarded?
