Anti-Catholic sentiment?

It seemed pretty obvious to me that the writer was one of those "conservative" Christians who feel that Catholics aren't "really" Christians. The anti-Catholic sentiment ran rampant throughout what little of this movie I could force myself to watch. I changed the channel right after the "never give a sermon like that one' speech. *blerg*

Do you have any examples? Having been brought up by a Catholic father and a Christian mother, I think I'm in a good position to "judge", but I didn't get anything negative from this movie :)

reply

Yeah please explain. I was raised Catholic and converted to Mahayana Buddhist. I still hold a general appreciation and respect for all the worlds religions especially Christianity. I did not notice anything anti-catholic either.

I didn't see the "never give a sermon like that..." thing as being anti-Catholic. It was done to illustrate the failings of the man who said it, not the Church he represents.

Too bad you didn't see the rest of the movie - the reasoning why he said it became clear and it was definitely not anti-Catholic.

When I saw this film on TV for the first time I thought "here we go again, more Evangelicals bashing Catholics on TBN" when I realized that that it wasn't anti-Catholic at all. The priests were shown as simple fallible men (which they are). Joshua isn't Protestant or Catholic, but the embodiment of Christian love and understanding.

Joshua (Jesus) calling the Pope "Peter" by the way.

The movie was based off a book written by a Roman Catholic priest!!! How in the world was it anti-Catholic??? Father Pat was one of the heroes of the movie along with Joshua. LoupGarouuTFT...get a hold of yourself man. No disrespect but you've got a vivid imagination or a persecution complex if you think a film based on a book written by a Catholic priest was anti-Catholic!

I am not Catholic, and I did see what seemed to ba a little bit of harshness toward the elder Catholic priest. But, the story was written by Joseph F. Girzone, a retired Catholic priest, and not by biased protestants. Maybe you should try watching the film all the way through. It really does bring a message of God's love towards mankind.

This is a very good movie there is no bias towards anyone here it shows the good and bad in all. From the tent preacher faking it to the RC priest who can't love. Some people just see the negativity and then there are those who make up negativity just because it is easier than love or building up.
Those beautiful buildings shown in the Roman and Vatican scences. I could never in a thousand years build up anything so pretty. But give me a sledge hammer and i could tear it down. It is easier to tear down it is easier to hate why do the easy thing.

I lovwe how Evangelicals don;t think that Catholics are Christian when the latter can first and without them, the E's would not be either.

Catholics for the most part do not consider them selves christain. My father in law once said something not nice and I replyied, that was not very christain like, to which he replied I am not christain i'm catholic. But as it was already mentioned the Book was written by a catholic priest. It is a series of books. I would recommend reading all of them. My mother meet the priest in his home and signed her copy of the book she has.

"Catholics for the most part do not consider them selves christian"

That is the most untrue and dumbest thing I have ever read. Your father-in-law is an idiot and obviously not a catholic. Catholics are followers of the teachings of Christ, therefor if you claim to be catholic, you claim to be christian.

reply

I do have to agree with you about my father in-law. Putting him aside for now I have heard similar comments from other cathlolics. Though yo are right if you claim to be a catholic you are a follower of Christ which makes you a christian so wht do so many catholics as well as other do not consider themselves or them christian? A cofusing parodox.

I think the people who put BIG-C Catholic over being small-c cristian are doing so to distance themselves more from the modern non-denominational Mega-Church (or Mega Church Modeled) Christians than any older Christian Faith

A few years back I took a tour (for lack of a better term) of the various religious houses of worship in my Metro Area I hit everything available this side of a Muslim community center (inside a re-purposed Church)and the Seventh Day Adventists... and all of them had a fairly similar vibe (more alike than not)regardless of what building used to be... EXCEPT the 'Megas'

upon mentioning my tour during the post service Meet & Greet at another church (Greek Orthodox if I recall) one of the parish members described them as impersonal, and cited her preference of Traditional Hymns over the "Jesus is my Boyfriend Music" played by the Megas
