question

Hey, watched the film last night and i thought it was brilliant but i have just one question why did Joshua cut the cord on the Sonar equiptment thing Father Pat had bought? seemed a bit harsh, i think the point he was trying to get accross was that he didn't need it to catch fish and that it was a waste of money, but isn't it more of a waste of money now its broken and can't be sold, it was the one thing in the movie that i thought was out of character, can someone clear this up with me? did i miss something??

thanks, Tim

im not sure about that part either but what i think is it was just a way to show that he didnt need to rely on that thing, because there was obviously something more important to trust in

A priest shouldn't care about money, neither did Joshua.

HA HA, yeah?! Try telling that to the Vatican.

I guess you could kind of tie it to how Jesus was flipping the tables in the tax-house place. Certainly out of character, but if you look at it in the right mindset it makes sense.

I saw it as Joshua wasn't really happy that he would be killing loads of fish with it..and also the metaphor. Be a fisher of men. :)

The sonar equipment thing was already useless, its value didn't decrease when Joshua cut the cord. Moreover, to whom would Father Pat have re-sold this worthless junk? Without being a con man, that is.

Yeah, it looked a bit harsh to cut the cord (it caught me too), but when looked at from this perspective it makes perfect sense.

Agree with this. Joshua didn't like frauds. Had Father Pat sold it to someone else, he would have been perpetuating the fraud.

I was kind of surprised that he didn't start catching fish as soon as Joshua cut the cord. As a takeoff of the apostles catching nets full of fish with Jesus from the Gospel.
