Dennis Quaid

This film had nothing but solid performances -- including by Andie MacDowell, who usually doesn't impress me. But I have to say that Dennis Quaid completely floored me with his command of the character. Even when he's not speaking, you can see his emotions bubbling under the surface by watching his facial expressions. An incredible performance by an excellent actor. And to top it off, he sings!

I admittedly tend to have an affinity for macho themed movies such as Raging Bull, Dirty Harry, Scent of a Woman, etc. etc. but I must say that after watching this movie with my girlfriend on the LIFETIME network of all things I was pleasantly surprised and in awe of the impeccable acting all around. Talk about a first rate cast. WOW. The dialogue was brilliant, and everything in this film was so incredibly true to life that I find it hard to believe that anyone would not be able to relate to this story in some way. I have always enjoyed Greg Kinnear, and can anyone possibly argue against the fact that he is one of the best and most underrated character actors working today? I simply cannot say enough good things about this film.

It is an amazing film, isn't it? I also tend to like grittier films, but the performances in this were so on the mark that they were impossible to ignore. It looks like a soapy Lifetime flick, but every word rings true.

I bought this DVD for a couple bucks and it sat on the shelf for a few years until I finally got around to watching it, and I was totally floored at how good it was. This is a testament to the craft of acting and screenwriting.

Sometimes a film that you have low expectations for just takes you by surprise, and this was certainly an example. Excellent cast, excellent film!
