Goof.
Photographers in the movie were using 4x5" Speed Graphics and similar cameras in the movie. They were also using flashbulbs. Neither of these were used by news photographers in 1981.
shareWell, certainly not flashbulbs from the 30's at least. That was a bit distracting, in a "who researched this scene" kind of way.
