Was Pero Mahalovic a serb?

It sounds Serbian, but I think they *beep* up the name, as they ussually do.

I've never heard of a last name Mahalovic, they probably meant Mihajlovic.

reply

nego sta nego je srbin.

Yup, the name is wrong, as well those few lines in serbian.

Da samo sto ima ruski pravoslavni krst na tetovazi i kao privesak na lancicu! Osim toga zajebali su dijagonalnu liniju na krstu - umesto da ide SZ -> JI, ona ide obrnuto!

Yes, he's supposed to be of a Serbian origin, but his tatoo and pendant on necklace is a russian orthodox cross (Serbian is slightly different) not to mention his bad pronunciation of few serbian words!

reply

that's probably the reason why he gets ko'd so easily, lol (wuss)... pwned by the priest... a catholic one at that...

reply

No, hi is supposed to be slovenian. Because Pero is short for peter, and he also says "pizda" which is pure slovenian word.

Chances are he is intended to be a Slovene as Cleveland has the largest community of Slovenes outside of Slovenia. Many have/had settled in Collinwood.

reply

When you see his name in the boxing match it is 'The Serbian Tornado' so he's a Serb.

reply

Also during the boxing match they're waving a Serbian flag. Mahalovic is a Serbian surname, not polish nor slovenian that's for sure. Him and Babich are serbs in this movie. Serbs often live in the same neighborhoods as poles and slovenes.

reply

The funny thing is that Mahalovic is a polish name, so I'm guessing his father was polish. I know a family by that name on the west side of cleveland. An underlying joke is that a lot of people in cleveland seem to have polish blood.

Even cosismo has a polish sounding last name "Cosnowolski?" Hilarious.

reply

Mahalovic is NOT a polish name. THAT I CAN GUARANTEE YOU. It is a serbian name. When people emigrated to America a long time ago, many names were spelt and pronounced differently by the people registering the names of immigrants arriving. So I assume there is a real serbian family in the states named Mahalovic, but originally it was Mihajlovic, which is a common serbian last name. A lot of family names have a totally different pronounciation due to these errors. But they do sound cooler!
