This film is a Remake

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052216/

Its an Italian comedy from the 50s, very funny. Just thought you might want to check that one out if you liked this one. The original is extremely funny. Also Woody Allen made a remake of the movie too called small time crooks, although he changed the story significantly.

reply

Small Time Crooks was not a remake of Big Deal on Madonna Street.

reply

Not a remake, i live in cleveland and collinwood is a small neighborhood in cleveland, its actually inspired by a true story that happened in cleveland.

reply

this film is 100% a remake of Big Deal on Madonna street, almsot scene for scene, as well as the character names. there were very very small changes made, but not many. Big Deal came out in 1960, and is far better.

reply

people might believe you and take you seriously more if you didn't come across as some sort of arrogant pr1ck. and that sentence is probably used more often on www.imdb.com than anywhere in the universe.

Arrogant or not, that's the plain truth anyway.
Just have to bother to check the on-screen film credits throughly sometimes.

Or ask George C., he'll know!

reply

Er , ' mesencephalon' , you come over as an ignorant arrogant pr ick , no one else ! This is yet another American remake - so what ?

That which does not Kill me makes me Stranger . . .

reply

Are you dumb????
Oh, my God, if only you had seen the Monicelli Movie, you wouldn't say something so stupid!
It's exactly the same movie! Same characters, same plot... some scenes are exactly the same (when one of them steals a camera at the market...exaaaactly the same shot!)
Even the directors said it's a remake...so...uhm... I guess in cleveland someone saw "Big Deal on Madonna street" and tried the "bellini"... yep! That makes sooooo much sense! :o)

reply

Small-time crooks has no resemblance to this movie.

reply

small time crooks is an unofficial remake of Larceny Inc. (1942).

WtC is pretty much a shot for shot remake of Big Deal on Maddona Street, like previously stated, is easily the superior movie.

"Small Time Crooks" is actually a remake of "Larceny, Inc." with Edward G. Robinson. Instead they open a luggage shop as a front. Very funny movie.

It is indeed a remake of Big Deal on Madonna Street. Dunno how anyone questions this fact when it's right there to see in the 'Movie Connections' section on the main page of this film. It wasn't the first American remake of it either as there was also Crackers in 1984, starring Donald Sutherland and Sean Penn.

Big Deal on Madonna Street had two sequels as well, one in 1960 and one in 1985.

Yes. When the movie ends, you can read it before the credits start rolling, ''based on I soliti ignoti, by Agenore Incrocci, Furio Scarpelli, Suso Cecchi d'Amico & Mario Monicelli''
It is very good anyway, because the cast is superb. The Russo brothers are really good!

reply

It certainly reminded me of Crackers which is a little known 1984 film and it seems that was a remake of the Italian original as well.

Its that man again!!
