Why such a low rating?

As of this writing, 6.2 (6,202 votes). While the reviews seem mostly quite positive. Is this movie worth watching or not? I know that whether a film is good or not is a matter of opinion...but this flick is on TV tonight and I was wondering if I should bother.
In 6 years only 6,200 people felt this movie was worth commenting on? And it only got a 6.2?
Yet the commentors have mostly good thigs to say...

I saw this movie on tv tonight and watching it is realy worth it.

Well, I watched it, and it was okay. It had potential, but I thought it could have been beter. I found it a bit "disjointed" in places. I would give it a 6.7 or so.

This is a very underrated film. It has the feeling of a more light-hearted Coen brothers flick.

The only sane choice.

Don't *beep* this up America

I was feeling, Coen Brothers Wannabe Flick, and as such there was something missing.

I loved this film. Thought it was fresh funny and generally entertaining.

Watch it.

Defs does have a Cohen Brothers feel to it, but is a hugely underrated movie. I have seen it several times and really impressed with the story and screenplay and loved Michael Jeter's old man Toto. He was perfectly cast. Also had a broadway play feel to it. Sits in my top list.

I enjoyed it. Worth watching. Great cast and script.

Entertaining film, had me laughing quite a bit. Don't know what all this rubbish I have seen people writing about it being a "Coen brothers wannabe flick". I didn't find that at all, fairly ignorant thing to say as well tbh.

Sorry abt necro... one guy even went as far as calling it a wannabe "Cohen" brothers flick...

I mean seriously, how much of wannabe Coen brothers snob does one have to be to spell it incorrectly?

Oh and fwiw, I was more entertained by this than the last Coen bro movie I saw. I think I fell asleep in O Brother... music was good, but... nyeh.

Not sure how relevant that last bit is...

reply

Because it's a remake.

Perhaps because while it's the kind of film you enjoy and can appreciate is good it's not actually one you will want to watch again. Several people have observed it's a wannabe Coen bros film. Given it's a remake that's probably not fair but I have to admit I thought I was watching one of their's and was wondering when Frances McDormand would turn up.

reply

I agree - it's got a Coen Bros feel to it.

That said, I enjoyed it, and re-watch it every now and then.

It's 6.4 now. I wouldn't say it's that low, I rated this movie 7, but a 6 and a half is not too bad. Good comedy, better than most. Great cast too.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

This movie is at least an 8 for me.

~I see a little silhouette of a man, Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango.
