Oh, please do give it a chance!!! You may not believe me, but my dad wrote that movie...

I saw this movie at blockbuster for a while and I finally decided to rent it. I was seriously impressed by this movie. Excellent movie. I would watch it again.

This was a good movie, your parents should be proud of their work.

It was not quite as good as Hackers, but better than Johnny Mnemonic. Pretty much in the same genre as those two (I guess cyber punk?)

It is a good movie that doesn't suck, better than I can say about many B sci-fi flicks.

The acting was a bit dry but the visuals were great as was the technology and CG.

I am glad I took a chance on this movie and decided to go ahead and see it.

At first I didn't like this movie at all, but somehow about half way through I began to care about the characters. I think it was Jules, with the dolphin, that made me care....weird how that is.

I watched the whole thing (I bought it as a used DVD) and am glad I did. I think I will need to watch it at least one more time to fully understand what was happening.

I deem it worth of a "William Gibson" because of the way the story line worked.

After that movie finished I promptly fished out my copy of Johnny Mnemonic. I had to feed my Keanu addiction.......

Other than that I thought that Cyber War's effects were pretty good. I also thought that some of the scenes were similar to the effects in Johnny Mnemonic.

Pretty good, I give Cyber Wars 7 out of 10.

I just watched it on cable. I found it pretty confusing at first but I'm glad I stuck with it. Although it is derivative of a lot of cyberpunk movies I found it pretty interesting and an achievement that Singapore cinema can be proud of. I didn't know it was a Singapore production but I soon guessed, and thought I saw some veiled criticism of Singapore politics which added to the interest. Also Genevieve O'Reilly is very easy on the eyes even if not totally believable as a hardened, cynical bounty hunter.

GASP!!! As a fellow Phantom lover, I implore you to reconsider! My father, Christopher Hatton, wrote this and Jian Hong-Kuo, my step-mother directed it! I was there, watching them film it! Believe me when I say that it is a good movie.

Look at your face in the mirror, I am there inside!

Haha.. I will. That is.. If the VCD or DVD is coming out..

I would recommend seeing it on rental. Having just watched it, it's a good solid cyber punk movie. Worth $4 if you've got $4 to spend (and no blockbusters to see), and especially worth dropping in your queue on any of the on-line rental places. I give it a 6.5/10. It's true there is nothing spectacular to write home about, but it's better then a lot of the crap being churned out by Hollywood these days.

I liked it, I was entertained. Especially good for lazy Sunday watching while you fold the laundry, vacuum, wash dishes, whatever household chores you happen to be doing.

Tell them I really enjoyed the film.

I bought the DVD this weekend as part of a DVD spending spree. The message I took from this was about how the game was a product of our culture progressing to a point where the intangible worlds of virtual reality, hyper reality, and the net are seen as real as the world around us.

The funny thing is that we've been seeing this today and over the past few years with MMO's live Everquest and Second Life(?) where virtual equipment, money and property are being traded with real world money. And some disputes have even ended with murder in the rl.

I was a bit confused by the ravers though. A gang of cyber enhanced and linked techno-terrorists(?). Not sure why they weren't affected by their mini EMP grenades (insulated or hardened cyberware?). Were they trying to stop the game or were they just trying to crash the system?

Favorite character was Julius. Techno-monk!

I'm glad your father and step-mother didn't turn this into another Matrix/Johnny Mnemonic. I have really started to gain a great appreciation for the asian cinemas. In fact most of the fils that I've been buying in the sci-fi, action and horror/suspence genres have been from Japan, Taiwan, China, Korea, etc.

Hey Kiddo, et al
I watched this film last night--I rented it at the store as a lark; It's a hobby to search out all science fiction movies and watch them all, case in point "Kamikaze '89". I think they billed Fassbinder as an "international action superstar". Well.

As far as this movie is concerned, I'm in America, so it was called "Cyber Wars" (ooooo!). "Avatar" is a much better title. I thought it was intelligent and interesting. My only criticism would be that the story was a bit vague. It was hard for me to fully understand how the "avatars" could appear here and there. I guessed that there were certain locations with the appropriate technology in place to project them and/or alter the environment that one would perceive (as in the hotel), which was a cool scene that could have used some expansion to showcase the concept of an ambush from behind the electronic wall of cyberspace projected as reality.

But the main point is that this was a good movie--far better than 3.8, the current rating here. I give it a 6 overall, but consider it 7 or 8 for concept and intelligence. The acting was good, and Julius was a great character (would have liked to have seen more of him; although we did see quite a bit all the same).

I would watch another movie in Sitawan (sp.?) with the detective Vic and Dash.

Consider "Aeon Flux", "Ultraviolet", etc. and it's a shame that movies like "Avatar" don't get more of a chance--of course, I can only speak of the US. Maybe worldwide it stood a better chance.

So you let other people determine what movies you don't like before you've even seen them for yourself?

Bad comments can say what they want...I watched it and it is a good movie.
Not "that" good, but better than a lot of Hollywood crap we get this days!
It's a nice view, a professional job to look at, and a classical (and simple) cyberpunk flick.

I would like to see more movies like this one, rather than stupid things like:

- Poseidon (Titanic without a story?)

- The DaVinci Code (good book, vomit movie)

- Mission Impossible III (may some God PLEASE save us)

You know, I had trouble deciphering if it was Cyberpunk, or Post Cyberpunk based..

Cyberpunk movies are suppposed to be grittier and cut throat like the novels. Also the society (from what I gathered) wasn't split because of the Technology, the closest you had to someone forced out of the whole of Society was the Ravers, and they were more cybered up then anyone else.

Also, it seemed to me that the two heros were trying to save the status quo kinda...

Maybe I just expect darker things from Cyberpunk-themed stuff..

Oh but I enjoyed the movie, I caught it on Starz Edge just today, thinking about getting it on DVD
