In a therapy session, the father reveals that he was molested as a child. He says that he tried hard not to repeat this pattern with his son, which is why he went after the daughter instead (?). Sorry, but that really does not make any sense at all! I'm quite sure that in real life, it would have been the son who suffered the abuse (if he had abused anyone) - because he would have been "acting out" the abuse that he himself had suffered as a child.
shareActually many child molester will abuse both girls and boys. Maybe because he was trying so hard to avoid that behavior with his son, he let his guard down with his daughter.
Molester don't only "act out" their abuse experience. That experience, however, will leave a door open in their minds about sexual contact with children.
I really think this film has underlying innuendos where the parents are concerned. Nevertheless, the impression I got from the father regarding his actions with his daughter was not exactly from the abuse he received from his father as a child. At the time he was distant and feeling rejected by his wife and I think he turned to the next closest female in his life which was his daughter. By what he stated in one of the therapy sessions gave a picture of his own father as being brutal and certainly this mentality wasn’t shown in him. To me he showed remorse and tried his upmost to be honest and open, he desperately wanted to be forgiven and to be trusted again. I know what he did was inexcusable, but I’m trying to put it in perspective if I was in the same circumstance. Now ask yourself, “what would you do if you were in the same position as this family”?

I don't think there should be any excuse for a molester to molester children whether it is their own children or other people's children. It is wrong and there is no excuse for it, they may say "I can't help it" or "It is what I am like a gay man is the way he is" people who have sex with children they may get their satisfaction but the children they are left scared, damaged and destroyed.

shareI'm just glad she didn't take too long to realize having the man that touched her daughter between her legs in the same house as her wasn't the cat's pajamas. I think she wanted Tess to resume a normal life but took her a bit longer to realize the new normal was without him in her life.
