Oficial Candy Candy DVDs!!!!! FOR REAL THIS TIME!

O.k. this is so awsome i don't know where to start....
Someone in this forum had mentioned that in Korea there was plans to release the entire Candy Candy series on DVD in 2006. Anyway, for months and months ther were no actual updates or even a trace there this was true but i was just browing on the net and i found out that this is true. The realese consists of 20 DVDs/ 2 box sets of 10 dvds each. Only one box has been release this year but the next box set is due to be released in 2007. The DVDs are in its original japanese and korean audio. I still don't know about subtitles at all. But hey, at lease this is an OFFICIAL, LEGAL, LISENCED DVD release of Candy Candy which should give fans A LOT of hopes for further Candy Candy DVDs. For skeptics like me go to the website http://www.hanbooks.com/cacaanr10dvd.html

Merry Christmas evryone!!!

reply

Oh, thank you very much, this is the best news for me before christmas.I hope the dvds will release all over the world.I'm in thailand,I loved candy since I was eleven and I'm almost forty now.
Merry Christmas .

reply

Hmm...well just recently I read reviews about the DVD sets in Korean and they said that the picture quality was bad and that the overall quality seems taken off the old VHS tapes that were distributed years ago...Is this set really liscensed???

reply

Thanks for bringing that up. As i said in my original post, i am also a skeptic so your post comes very inconvinient for a lot of us. I don't know if you went to the website that i posted but i does say that it includes both audio tracks and most pirated copies don't do that (but you never know)plus it states the company releasing them and evrything, OH! the only fishy thing is that it is region free and most pirated dvds are region free. But a couple of weeks ago the website stated that they were region 3 and not its changed (even more suspisious). But I also read some reviews and I have only seen positive things. Keep in mind that a lot of countries that broadcasted candy candy still have rights to it. the only reason why they don't realease it is becuase they probably have better things to do than to be constantly battleing in court over lawsuits. maybe korea is a country with lots of BALLS and they decided to to it anyway. IF THIS IS THE CASE, THANKS KOREA. So there is a GOOD chance that this is a licenced release.

Like i said, i will look into that a little more and post on it when more info becomes available. By the way volume 2 is now availalbe check it out at

Hello there! Could you please tell me if the candy candy 20 DVDs/ 2 box sets will be released also in Greece? I am from Greece and I am a big fun of Candy Candy series. I've searched everywhere to find Candy even on VHS, but it is impossible. Please tell me if you know, when and where the box sets are going to be released!

Thank you!!

reply

Well, I don't have an anwser for that question yet (I'm working on it). I'm sure that more than 80% of us (fans) want it as we first saw it in our home countries. So far this is not yet happening BUT... The most important thing is that IT is out now (even if its just in korea in region 3 DVD). As I've said before, a lot of countries have rights to Candy Candy but they probably don't release it because they don't want to deal with legal battles. However, TOEI co. is going to see the success of the korean release and will probably release their own version. This will open doors for other contries to do it as well (in our own language). Even if TOEI co. doesn't do it, other countries probaly will. So realize that the korean release is a HUGE STEP for new candy candy dvds. This seems like a long time to wait but i'm thinking it will be only months to start seeing this happen. lets be pacient and see what happens. In the mean time I will be getting in contact with people in Peru, Argentina, France, Italy and Mexico and see if there seems to be any progress. As soon as i have news I will post them I promise. Peace.

o.k. a small update. I contacted a friend in peru and he told me that he purchased the korean box sets and he did say that the video quality was not that great. he gave it an 8.5 out of 10 video quality. He had also bought the french dvd boxsets and he gave those a 10 out of 10 for audio and video quality. suspicion rises about the suposed licence that the korean dvds have. but this also does not mean that it is a bootleg. The french dvds however were having legal battles over rights that they did not have thats why they stopped making them after box 2 (episode 46 i think). He also did say that so far there is no rumor about a spanish dvd release but since they are currently airing the show in peru without complaints from TOEI co., this is more than likely to happen very soon in latin america. As for other countries releasing it, im working on getting more info. Sorry fans no confirmation on anything yet but i'll keep you guys posted with any little new detail.

Hullo!

I´ve got some news about Candy Candy DVD´s (in the original Spanish-dubbed version): In January 10, 2007 Chilean newspaper Las Últimas Noticias (www.lun.com) starts selling the complete 115-episode Candy Candy TV show on DVD with each Wednesday issue of its daily newspaper as part of a special promotion (For more details, check: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_Candy, http://www.seriestv.cl).

Thanx for the info alpinu...
I have made a little reasearch on this collectiona and aparently the image quality is very very good (it was taken from the master copies from the TV station that televised it in the 80s) and also the audio seems to be very good as well. But I don't think that it is an official (licensed) DVD collection becuase the quality is not as good as it could be. You can check out images and a video clip from the Chilenean dvds at this forum

http://foro.monitos.cl/index.php?showtopic=11667

Sorry its all in spanish so if anyone has questions after visiting this forum, please post and i will do my best to answere them.

reply

I agree with you. It doesn't seem to be an official, or licensed, DVD collection. But despite this fact, the image and the audio are very good indeed. The price isn't bad, either (each double DVD costs $ 3990, which equals a little bit more than US$ 7).

Are there are any sellers out there who have this version for sale to the US? This would be a great improvement over the crappy DVD-Rs I have which are of very bad quality (yet I still watch them since I like the show).

Hullo!

Mmm..., I don`t think there are sellers who have the Spanish-dubbed version for sale to the USA, but who knows?. You can try the site of the Chilean newspaper (Las Ùltimas Noticias: www.lun.com) or this site(www.seriestv.cl). Anyway, the 8 DVDs (double all of them) cost Ch$ 31,920 (more or less US$ 55.00).

reply

hi there
i went to www.seriestv.cl but it doesn't tell you how to order the series or how much they are. do you happen to know how to order?

reply

Hullo there

Unfortunately, it seems to me that you cannot order the DVDs because they were supposed to be sold with the newspaper issue. Anyway, write to [email protected] and who knows...?
Good luck!

Oh this is no use for me..I wont understand anything of what is said if it's not english subtitles...i'm hoping for when the day comes....I look forward to it so...

It makes me so sad to tell you that english subtitled DVDs of Candy Candy will more impossible than winning the lottery and a lightning stricking twice in the same spot. Pretty much.... Its not going to happen :(

I'm trying to start a petition to have Candy Candy released in the USA.

Surfing imdb since 2002

Go to the end of the video list and they have them on Spanish. I started watching from the beginning and now I'm in episode 33.

I bought the complete box set at this site:

http://www.yesasia.com/us/candy-candy-dvd-end-limited-collectors-editi on-english-subtitled-taiwan/1011082397-0-0-0-en/info.html

It retails for 137USD. The featured languages are Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. The subtitles are in Chinese and English. It comes a neat little package that includes tiny cut-away cards and a little Candy Candy bag. There are two downsides to this set:

1. The intro and outro songs are left in Japanese only (not subbed or dubbed).
2. The discs are region 3, so you will have to find a way to play the discs in a multi-region dvd player.

I suppose another downside is the price, but this is a decent quality picture box set (I'd say 7 or 8 out 10 throughout the entirety, sometimes better). There are "cheaper" Spanish-only sets out there, but when you see them you will know why they charge such a low price (I have one of those and the picture and sound quality are terrible at best). If you are looking to get the complete set, this is the one you want to get.

PS - Sorry, I don't know of a Greek, Scandinavian, German, Dutch, French, Spanish (from Spain), Italian sets. I've only been able to find it in Korean and Spanish (from Latin America).
