century hotel should have come with a pillow and blanket

My wife and I watched about 25 minutes and turned it off. I thought this was an incredibly boring film. I didn't care about any of the characters or their situations and their was no joy (for me) in wathcing the different stories unfold. Some may say I should have watched more of it...I say, if a movie doesn't hook you in at least the first 20 minutes, it's crap.

And others might say that if you didn't watch half the film then why bother talking about it.

If you think about it, how many movies hook you in the first twenty minutes? Most movies take a half hour just to get the story introduced and started. I still consider Lantana a great movie, but it took a whoole hour to really hook me.
But I won't defend the film too much. I found it disappointing too. It has some good points, but it was done rather badly.

25 minutes?! You and your wife must have ADD or ADHD. Anyone who can't spend 90 minutes watching a movie has no right to complain about it. I didn't think the movie was great, but the last 3/4 of it was interesting, especially with the young bride (Lindy Booth).

reply

honestly... people should not be allowed to post about a film that they didn't even see all the way through.

25 minutes? LMFAO! you have got to be kidding me...

Oh, god, yes! Those arms, that butt... :-) The very reason I picked up this movie. Then I actually found myself interested in a few of the other stories. I thought the Chinese bride segment was very well done, as was the triangle between the hotel detective, the book-lover and his wife. Not a 'great' movie, but enjoyable and different from the usual Hollywood recycling.

I bought this movie since it was recommended for me by Amazon.com and it looked interesting from the description. I couldn't remember exactly why Amazon had recommended it to me until I had bought it and the opening credits rolled - ah, yes David Hewlett. I'm a Stargate SG-1/Atlantis buff, so Amazon is currently recommending to me everyting anyone on Stargate ever starred in (especially since I'm a die-hard Farscape buff, too). Seeing David in the buff was a very pleasant suprise.

Oh, it was an excellent movie too, how the story threads wound around each other so you had to keep waiting for your favorite vignette to come up again. I had expected a series of vignettes in chronological order, not all of them intertwined. It is a refreshing change from the typical Hollywood-produced film.

See, I didn't mind the first 20 minutes of it. But as it progressed, i became more and more tempted to shut it off. I watched the whole thing, though, and it really was a disappointing film. Like most everyone's said, it's a good plot idea, but it was poorly executed.

If i make a fool of myself, who cares? I'm not freightened of anybody elses perception of me.

i agree, it was boring and hard to follow...was watching it with a friend last night, and also turned it off about maybe 40 minutes of watching it.
