Stockard was amazing

Stockard Channing gave a great performance as usual in this film. She's always superb, but it's a pleasure to see her get the opportunity to really sink her teeth into a juicy leading role for a change instead of being sidelined into a supporting role. She deserved an Oscar nomination for her work in The Business of Strangers. One of the most underrated actresses around.

I completely agree. She went hard-ass to sympathetic very gracefully. Ecspecially in the scenes she has alone. Superb acting.

Thanks for the reply and glad you enjoyed Stockard's work as much as I did. Such a treat to see this marvellous, underrated actress relishing the chance to play a complex and multi-layered leading role. And yeah, she really hit all the right notes from tough and cold to sympathetic and vulnerable. Great work by Channing as usual.

I just watched the movie and came on here to see what everyone else thinks of it.

I was indeed curious what the view on Stockard was, for me she carried the whole movie by herself...she was simply *awesome* !

Glad you enjoyed Stockard's great work here, axeslammer. She is truly one of the unsung greats of Hollywood.

I almost didn't watch it because I've never really cared for her work - maybe it was the roles she's been given because her acting in this movie was nothing short of perfection. Stiles' role was easily played and she did well but I watched with jaw dropped at the way Ms. Channing handled every scene, line, emotion, facial expression, body language, you name it she nailed it!

I've always liked Stockard in this as well. There are moments in the film
that make it interesting.

The elevator scene in which Julie and Paula act like a bickering lesbian couple.

The scene where Julie explains to Paula about the first time she experienced
a hot flash

And of course the moment when Paula dares Julie to kiss her if she doesn't
want to be caught.

In whole, the film is kind of slow paced, yes, but it's an interesting film
Almost like we're traveling with them and watching the situation unfold.....

Brilliant! Some rare opportunities for Channing to do her best. Watching it, I kept thinking she's the only other actress who could ever have played Bette Davis' role on "All about Eve."

She was awesome! Why don't producers use actresses like her more??!! Think how awful this movie would have been with Julia Roberts or Gwyneth Paltrow. I'll take Stockard any day over those bitches . Excellent casting.

Aquileia, I so agree with you about Stockard being one of the most underrated actresses around. She does consistently brilliant work, but it very rarely gets the recognition it deserves. The Business of Strangers is definitely one of her best films. She is just perfect in the role. And, hello, could she possibly be any sexier? I love her!

Yes.

I must agree here too. It was damn good. Julia Stiles as well. I mean she was like 19 in that movie and they both rocked it.
