At some point in the film the character Francoise (Luck Mervil) mentions how the police had "questioned him about marks & bruising on José's body"
Perhaps I am missing something but seeing as the kid had been kidnapped & was still missing though how would the Police had known about such things?

It's possible that the mother mentioned it when she was describing something specific for the boy to be identified by.

because the movie wasn't very well written.
