Skipped 1/2 of part 5 + all of part6

I realize that this might vex some Cookson purists (and understandably so) but I wish they’d kept this miniseries parts 1-4 and left it at that. Admittedly, I haven’t read the book so I’m not savvy to the whole, sweeping saga that was being adapted here. This is just my response to the miniseries as a total unschooled noob. I streamed on Netflix and very much enjoyed parts 1-4. I was very pleased at the ending of part 4 and I was surprised when, during the credits roll, I got the little corner window that Netflix has that notifies the next installment playing in 10 sec. I’d thought for sure it had just ended!!

Anyway, I started to watch Part 5 but I couldn’t even make it through the whole episode. Couldn’t get into it. Cognitively, I made the leap that these were the same characters 25 yrs in the future, (because heeey—same names) but it felt like watching a completely new movie nevertheless. It didn’t feel cohesive. I suppose really what killed it for me was that old Hal & old Mary Ellen were not half so appealing as their episodes 1-4 counterparts. I quite agree with other commenters, elsewhere on this board, who opined that it would’ve been better to use the same actors with aging make-up. If they’d used the same actors, I bet I would’ve watched all of part 5 and part 6. And at the end, I might’ve still wanted the perfect happy ending of part 4 to be the ending. But at least I would’ve been able to stick with it...
