Okay, so the Majestic was closed for about six years?

It's explained that they closed the Majestic because after the war people moved away and didn't want to go to the movies. And the story is set in about 1951?

Boy, what dilapidation took place in six short years.

Seemed like there was enough other stuff going on in that town that could have supported a movie house

I think the father was heart broken about the sons death and just quit

Been awhile, and they don't show this --- at all -- and It's one of my favorite Carrey roles--

The son dies 6+ years before so the theater owner his father closed because of a broken heart???
