so this was pretty much fictional?

It takes away from the movie so much.

one of the main plotlines where he has delusions of being a spy, is completely fictional.

He was not a nice shy person, he was a racist, rude deviant.

And this beautifull romance was almost completely made up.

this movie is excelled by the idea of being a biography, now that i know its not , i woulden't rate it higher than maybe a 7.2.

Is the movie diminished because it strayed too far from the true story, or is it because it's based on the life of a man who you don't find sympathetic? Either way I suggest you forget about the true story and just enjoy the movie as a good piece of fiction. It should be judged on its own merits anyway.

They never said it was a true story. At the beginning it states "inspired by a true story". There's a big difference. In fact the trailer says "inspired by events in the life of John Forbes Nash". That's pretty much what the movie is. It's still a powerful story.

They got very little right in the story, though. He was human. He was a mathematician. He had mental illness. He won the Nobel prize. That's pretty much where the similarities end.
