DVD Should Have Been Widescreen

The Rhino DVD is made from a clean print with excellent sound. Sadly, there are scenes that are ruined by the full screen format. When musicians trade back and forth on solos there may be only one instrument shown. When groups sing harmony parts, some of the performers are either missing or only partially shown. The DVD makes the case for why letterbox or widescreen formats are necessary.

The DVD I felt was rather cheaply done although the chapters for each musical number was an outstanding bit I wish more musicals had. I disagree with you about the sound - it is recorded way too low, it's almost mandatory that you play this DVD with the sound at full volume to enjoy it. In any case I believe it's no longer in print so maybe whenever it's rereleased it will have the improvements both you and I would like.

It should have been in widescreen, but RHINO had for the most part always put out DVD's in the fullscreen format. One case in point: Galaxina. But it wasn't until BCI had bought the rights to the film that a proper widescreen edition of Galaxina was released.

BCI had been buying the Crown Internation canon of film, but now it seems that the chance of seeing a widescreen version of Road To Nashville seems very, very slim since Navarre shut down BCI earlier this year.
