I want to make this into a film!

This could probably be the greatest film of the Sci-Fi genre. With great special effects, great orchestral music, and a suspenseful plot, plus the meaning of friendship and loyalty, this would be an awesome, engrossing film.

I would NOT change a thing. In fact, I would make the first and the sequel exactly as it would played in perfect order. There's probably enough here to make one film. Although, I don't know if I want to end it like in the first one, or continue the story like in "Heart of the Alien."

With my touch, I could make this the first Sci-Fi film to win the Best Picture Oscar. Look at "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King," a fantasy film that swept the Oscars. It could happen.

Great game! (Thank goodness there's youtube for the memories.)

I'm with you, but not without a few thoughts in mind:

1. Would you make the movie Rotoscoped? It would be the only logical thing to do, since the game is in essence, rotoscoped.

2. Don't do the sequel. I haven't played it, but the movie's ending should be left with ambiguity, even if test audiences think otherwise.

3. You would really have to work on the story to make it Oscar winning. I'm not denying it can't be done, but it would take a lot of hard work to do something like that.

4. Would you go for the Wall-E treatment* or not? *The Wall-E Treatment would be a movie with very minimal speech, much like Wall-E did, by not having characters say much of anything.

You can PM to me if you don't want to answer at all. I won't steal your thoughts, trust me.

Join the queue man, this is my dream project.

I wouldn't do it Rotoscope though, what would be the point in adapting it if it looked exactly the same?

Still, i'd have practically no dialogue, try to do it all real time etc.

It would be cool to incorporate some parts of Heart of the Alien, like the alternate perspectives. But I am sure Eric wouldn't want that.

If when possible in a few years to come I will be doing it myself as a fan film.

I will say, having only really played it just in the past 2- 3 years, not like a lot of diehard fans have, if you use actors and whatnot, you should do it in rotoscope.

The game looks unique, but in my opinion, and I can't stress that part enough, It's small potatoes compared to what Rotoscope has looked like in recent years (The Animation style in one segment in "The Animatrix" has a very gritty style of Rotoscope that seems to favor the Linkin Park Video "Breaking The Habit".) and even A Scanner Darkly (One of my all time favorite Adult Animated Movies) has a look that would be better suited for the movie. Don't turn down the idea to make a unique game into a unique movie, unless budget is the only thing holding you back.

I've seen movies with little to no dialogue before, and truth be told, It will only work if the visuals will be large and many. However, I have seen a movie before that had many elaborate visuals but was weak on dialogue and it made enjoying the characters a lot harder, so a little speech from the characters might be alright, as long as you make sure what comes out of their mouth isn't telling people what they should feel or see.

I do not know how if language was a barrier or not in Out of This World or not, but it might make it more original if the Alien and the main character both don't speak the same language. If the main character can speak it but the Alien can't, it might make you appreciate the story a little more; I don't know, you will be writing the movie, not me.

Just as a fellow movie goer, I'm trying to suggest ideas, but in the end, it's what the director says that goes.

^ It's not all about the director as many film goers expect.

I would probably do it Rotoscope if I did my fan film, for budget limitations. It's just that if I were adapting it to a feature I would want it to be a feature, not an experiment on how closely I could match the look of the game, that's all.

The Animatrix/Linkin Park animation looks very good, I have been a fan of those two shorts since they came out. ASD is a terrific film (in fact I am considering adapting a PKD story into a short myself sometime soon).

Basically if I were to do Another World, I would want Eric Chahi involved completely in the process. Maybe there are some things he always wanted to put in but couldn't? Or some things he regrets not changing?

I don't know where the hell the OP got this Oscar thing from. If you want to make movies for Oscars you don't make Another World. Oscars aren't everything, in fact they're next to nothing.

If this film was ever made it would go unnoticed by most people.

Oh also, I would want to do it completely in France.

I'm certainly glad you commented on all of that. I'm sure Eric would probably appreciate the thoughtful attempt at including some of his ideas into a movie that he probably couldn't do for the game for one reason or another.

I'm glad you added your two cents on the thought of Rotoscope. It further makes me appreciate how you would do the movie, but not adapting it to its visual style like the game.

I'm hooked on the subject of this game/ movie thing. It sounds more exciting than any other video game movie out there, and I'm totally supportive of it all. If you start making a website, let me know, I'll spread the word as much as I can.

I've dreamt of making it into a film too.

I think it would be better as a short film, maybe 20-30 mins. That way you could keep all the source material, without having to add any unnessecary scenes or make the characters talk. In true Another World style there should be no text on screen until the credits, it should be rotoscoped, and just follow the story exactly. Only the depth and visuals really need to be enhanced.

I can guarantee that if you made it a feature length film you would have to have the characters talk, which would ruin the story I think. And you'd either have to drag out the story or make up new subplots completey. Not the worst idea though, I'd love to see more of the Alien world.
