I met Marlene Dietrich!

Just briefly: I met Marlene Dietrich in the Chicago airport in October 1964! I was in the Army, on my way to Indianapolis where I would be for 3 weeks taking Army training at Fort Benjamin-Harrison there.
I was in the Chicago airport, hurrying to catch my next airplane onto Indianapolis, when there she was in the Chicago airport! She was talking with an airport person. When he walked away, I went up to her: "Excuse me, but are you Marlene Dietrich?" "Yes, I am!" she nicely replied. I thanked her, told her I was a big fan of her movies, and shook her hand, then off to my next airplane.
Upon arriving in Indianapolis, I picked up a local newspaper, and to my surprise, saw she was appearing that very night "One night only with Marlene"! I went AWOL! Took a city bus to the Butler University, was taken by an usher to the backstage just before the show on stage was to start. And there she was! Wearing a pink suit, and a big smile, for she remembered meeting me that same day in Chicago. She and her producer offered me an alcoholic beverage. I declined. "Well Bob, then you don't drink anything?" she asked me. I said no. So she and her producer raised their glasses and drank to my good health! Then she said, "Oh, Bob, what is that you have?" I said it was a brochure I purchased all about her life. "I did not know about this!” she exclaimed! It was such a happy conversation. I have remembered it all these years. She was indeed a very special lady, a great human being, and I miss her to this day. I pray she is in Heaven with Jesus. Three weeks later the Army flew me to Korea for one year. I saw no military action, thank God. Today we must pray, as North Korea is threatening! Jesus is about to return! My phone: 208/342-4889. I am Bob Bateman
