Loved this video

Aja is one of the best jazz/rock/funk albums on the planet. I say "funk" because the musicians that played on these tracks have played with greats like Aretha Franklin, James Brown, to name a few.

This video peels down the layers of instrumentation that make up Aja. We hear from Fagan and Becker about the processes they went through to create this masterpiece.

I really enjoyed the drummer's segment when Bernard "Pretty" Purdie talks about how he used the shuffle technique on tracks like "Home at Last". Aja features incredible drumming (like "Peg" with features Rick Marotta) and other legends that add the funk element to this album. I also enjoyed hearing Larry Carlton and Chuck Rainey on their roles in the making of Aja.

I always knew Steely Dan had exceptional musicians on their albums. It is fascinating to learn what goes in the making of classics like these. These cats were true perfectionists. I only wish there were more live performances and where were the horn players at? The one saxaphonist that spoke did not join the jam session.

I wish more music was played like this today on radio. Everything is just too commercial.
