BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS...

Richard Dutcher's best film. I mean, wow. It sticks under your skin. I think this movie was great because Dutcher gave himself the starring and directing role so he can give the film the narrative it needed to be intriguing.

I think it's also his darkest film too. States of Grace had gang violence and fornication, but Brigham City had serial rape and murder. And not once in the film does the tone become shaky or inconsistent like God's Army or States of Grace. You can also tell Dutcher knows how to write a whodunit story -- this one was full of twists and turns and you end up kicking yourself to see that the serial killer was right in front of your face all along.

I just wish he did more films like this. This is my favorite Mormon movie because it manages to be dark and religious while never going over the top. Does anyone know any other dark religious movies that aren't corny and over-the-top? Stigmata and Bless The Child were dark and religious, but just horribly corny.
