How did this not win a screenplay Oscar?

This is a brilliant story that has real characters from real life thrust into a fictional and strange tale that satirizes the entire process of turning a simple non-story narrative into a marketable movie replete with all the requisite sensational elements studios deem necessary, and that the lowest-common-denominator public masses seemingly demand because that's what they've been trained to want...

The Pianist is a good movie, but adapting that book is nowhere near the feat that Adaptation. turned out to be, but the Oscars are whatever anyway.

This was a sensational unique story that was and is fresh. Kaufman is amazing and his interviews on Utube etc are insightful.

The Oscars aren't great judges and frequently miss the real gems, like this one.

Also this movie wasn't made by a child rapist (allegedly) who fled from the law.

Just happened to come out the same year as The Pianist, almost any other year it would have won.

I don't know if it satirises script writing, but it sure makes it look funny.
I think Donald should be revived for another movie.
