misunderstood, and therefore underrated

The only way to really understand this great series is to try and realize that the humour here is not on a regular comedy level. I thought this would be obvious, but I guess a lot of folks don't get it; when I take a look at the many negative user comments about he show being superficial and cheap, I get a little frustrated.
That's my Bush is pure sarcasm. A mockery of american society and mentality. It places the sit-com formula, typical to America, in a fully absurd context, with all the cheap jokes, the predictable twists and clichés of the average sit-com. Very risky, but very well done.
For instance, when Bush closes each show with the "I'm gonna punch you in the face" it's a ridcule of feel-good humour and through and beyond that: a sharp and cynical perspective on America: mostly on general indifference and superficiality, which are ironically the things that caused this clever show to live a short life.

I agree with you there.

Liberals can try to pose this as "the most *real* look at George W. Bush" and try to push it as propaganda for their cause, but they simply ignore the facts.

1) It's Matt Parker and Trey Stone creating this. They're from Colorado and their greatest pastimes are "shooting guns" and "harassing liberals."

2) This is on the trivia page: "Creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker waited three months to see if the show would be "Absolute Al" or "That's my Bush", depending on the winner of the election."

I.e., the show wasn't made to make fun of one person, but of the Presidential office and the sitcom genre in general.

So, liberal kiddies, get off it. This is meant to be a fun show, not something where you can bash your conservative "enemies" over it.

And conservatives - it's okay if you like the show. You don't have to be "outraged" by it. If Gore was elected, they would've been shafting Gore.

That's why I love Stone and Parker. They screw with everyone equally.

Comedy Central - give the show another chance.

Um, sorry, but you're really mistaken.

I have seen ANYONE, lib or con, think this is a spoof on Bush. Especially so early into his presidency (before he really effed up). Me, you, they, everyone knows this is a spoof of old sitcoms.

Saying Liberals think it's a hit on Bush, makes you just as bad as anyone who though it was serious.

The show was done BEFORE 9/11, thus BEFORE Bush was revealed to be unqualified. The show is OBVIOUSLY a spoof of old sitcoms. No one believed it was really about Dubya.

Does a subway ad=insult to W? Does a sports team=insult to W?

That'd be the same thing.

Find another way to insult Liberals because this one doesn't make sense.

GW Bush was known to be a moron WAY before he got into office I remember the run up to the election thinking, "They can't vote this guy in surely? If they do I totally lose any respect for them"

It is a spoof of Bush but in the form of turning him into a typical sitcom character.

People don't seem to get spoofs and clever humour.

The kind of people who complain about this being cheap and lowbrow and probably the same people who hate the ending to Monty Python & the Holy Grail.

Even if you hate Uwe Boll, give Postal a try, be offended or entertained.

Yes, it's completely true that most people really had no idea what the show was about. Maybe it's because they were trying to watch it like a regular sitcom (although if you are dumb enough to actually LIKE sitcoms, it seems like the show would have plenty of humor to appeal to you), or maybe they are just too dumb to see any of the underlying messages. Either way, it sucks. Almost everytime I ask somebody if they like the show, they've either never heard of it (most likely) or they think it is one of the dumbest shows ever made. It's so unfair that such a funny (and yes, intelligent) show has such a bad rap.

Then again...I suppose that's what happens to most of the best shows. Usually, the more popular the show, the crappier it actually is. If that doesn't tell you something about our society...well then, you probably don't like That's My Bush.

Would anyone agree that Seinfeld is an exception to this rule?

Somewhat. Seinfeld is great in small doses, but I find if I watch it too often, it starts to get a little old. But I guess that can be said of any series. You just start noticing the patterns in the characters and the way things seem to work out for them, you know?
