Cancelled or Just Ended?

Did the show actually get cancelled? Or was it always planned to just do a few episodes? I mean Parker and Stone were doing South Park at the same time, so maybe this was just going to be a brief side project during election year...?

They seem to have done a few side projects: Precious, Team America, Book of Mormon. Maybe not 'side projects', but projects at the same time as their main one; South Park. Was That's My Bush always meant to only go one season?

Also, I have no idea about any of this really, just if I got it all wrong hah.

Matt and Trey decided to end the show when 911 happened.

The show was officially cancelled in August of 2001 (before 9/11) with Comedy Central citing too big of a budget per episode considering the ratings it got. Though Matt and Trey weren't naïve and knew that it was probably gonna be a one-season thing.
