You must have IQ of 80 if you think this was a bad movie!

I never saw this movie, but stumbled across it on Netflix. It was excellent! I'm astonished not just that some didn't merely not like it (you're allowed to not like a movie), but the REASONS are bizarre! Harrison Ford looks old?? Problems with the Russian accents? Is this crap for real??

My guess is that it's the low IQ brigade who are the big haters. These are the same morons who can't stand to watch a movie that doesn't blow chit up, among other things low IQers adore.

Btw, there's nothing wrong with action movies. They can be very entertaining. But this is a different kind of movie, one that requires some knowledge of history, for you to GET. If you don't, instead of putting your ignorance on display, why not do a little reading and get a freaking clue what the world was like in 1961? If that's beyond you, stick with cartoons and leave the serious movies to the adults.

I'm a big fan of this film, although your criticism of anyone who doesn't like it as having a low IQ is a tad unfair.

However, I do agree that complaining about accents and Harrison Ford's actual age (irrespective of how old he looks and the strength of his performance) are stupid complaints.

This is a strong intelligent movie that presents Soviets as real people rather than two-dimensional monsters or puppets of the State, and it's great to see Harrison Ford play an antagonistic, relatively unsympathetic character.

Tring to watch this now. Doesnt seem to bad except Ford and Neeson have no russian accent or a bery bad one.

I go to the movies to forget reality and enjoy myself for a couple of hours, if it keeps my attention I enjoy it. A lot of people claim that Citizen Kane is an excellent movie and I am sure it is but I tried to watch it several times and it loses my concentration. It is all about what YOU enjoy, I have seen critics slam movies that I thought were great. Someone once said that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

So, if someone doesn't share your opinion, they must be stupid, right?

Who's the one with the stunted intellect?

Some of the criticisms of this movie (Harrison Ford's age, the accents) are idiotic, when the actual substance of the movie is so interesting and rich. I'm sure your critique will be much more relevant. I can hardly wait to see what you have to say. :)

reply

My opinion of the film is irrelevant. Why? Because it's nothing more than an opinion, no more or less important than yours or anyone else's. An opinion. You fail to realize this, and this causes you to think that your opinion is the end all be all, and anyone who doesn't agree with it is stupid. That's not only extremely short sighted, but ignorant.

Opinion and fact. You seem to confuse the two.

So the movie was over your head. Hey, that's OK. You have bigger questions on which to focus, like why cookies aren't called 'bakies.'

reply

That's what you took from my reply..."the movie was over your head"? You've got more problems than ignorance.

So you didn't even SEE the movie?? Are you just killing time waiting at the bus stop for your mom to pick you up?

Last reply to you...

I never said I didn't see the film...another assumption by you.

I never said the film was stupid...another assumption by you.

I'm not ignorant enough to think of any opinion that differs from mine is from a stupid person. Different people have different opinions and view films in different perspectives. You're just too full of yourself, yes full of yourself (as has become more evident as the posts continued), to allow any dissenting opinion.

I could just as easily say that you are a moron because you like an action film, and action films are made for people that are too stupid to understand anything other than said films. Would I be correct about you, or action films in general? Of course not. This is why I don't say something so ignorant. You do. Grow up, and learn that there are other opinions out there that can be different and not be from "stupid" people because you disagree with them.

How can someone who is so interested in the historic aspect of the film completely overlook the casting of non-Russian actors and the use of English as the main language of the film? It really takes you out of the film when you are imagining what's going on in these Russian submarines and you have a bunch of Americans, Irish, and British faking Russian accents and speaking to each other in English in Russian-only settings. Usually the best films are completely immersive in their settings and moods, so while this movie looked good and was pretty well-acted, it's still a major blow to have it delivered in English. This becomes doubly problematic when the Americans are the antagonists of this story's POV. At least they attempted accents in this one though, unlike Valkyrie, which was a casting nightmare.

I'm not saying it's a particularly good or bad movie right now. I'm halfway through it at the time of this posting and I'm reasonably enjoying it, however it's ridiculous to insult people as having low intelligence for having a problem with the accents and then to play the historical card in the same thought.

This excerpt, taken from the trivia section, is further evidence that while this movie may be an entertaining historical thriller, it's very far from historically accurate: "Upon reading the film's script, the surviving crew members were so incensed that they sent an open letter to star Harrison Ford, producer/director Kathryn Bigelow and producers Christine Whitaker and Steven-Charles Jaffe, expressing their dismay. Among the less-than-credible details they objected to were profane language, the animosity between the two highest-ranking commanding officers, insubordination among the crew, drunk crew members, the attempted mutiny, the guns (which are kept under seal in a secret location) and the handcuffs (which were only used by and available to cops)."

Hopefully you reconsider your argument formation the next time you want to make ridiculous sweeping generalizations about people, their film genres of choice and their intelligence levels.
