A Salaam Bombay of the new Millenium

Don't you think so ?

In a way, yes. For showing what happens in those parts of the cities, yes. I think both films are great, but Chandni Bar has a more depressing effect. I was not really depressed after watching Salaam Bombay, as I feel that this film also has many uplifting moments. Either way, both movies make you think for days about their real characters.

That is a fine observation. It makes perfect sense. However, I feel while both films are incredibly gritty and realistic, they both stand alone in my opinion. I did instantly compare them both however after viewing.

There are two independent American films that are constantly compared to eachother, "Kids" and "Thirteen." They are not mainstream films, they are the gritty and realistic type. "Thirteen" is very intimate and mainly focuses on one person, while "Kids" emphasizes a broad range of individuals. While they both share many similar themes, they still both have their own reasons for being separate. "Salaam Bombay" is about many different people and "Chandni Bar" is mainly about one person. The reason I brought these two up is because I feel like these films are the American versions of Salaam Bombay and Chandni Bar. Artful films of brutal honesty unafraid of showing the world how it really is. I LOVE films that break the norms and are shot for legitimate reasons instead of financial. I just had to say all of that.
