Possible Goof?

Spoilers ahead..
After re-watching this movie, it occurred to me that the note that Embry supposedly leaves for Katie is deliberately misleading--I don't see how anyone could fully guess the ending after seeing that note.

It says "Come and see me at the old place", but the building he's referring to didn't fall into disrepair until AFTER he went missing. Why would he call those dorms the "old place" when he wrote that note when it was his current residence?

Anyway I'm not hating on the movie or anything, I actually loved it, but I just don't see how his note makes sense, since he wrote it two years prior and was referring to a place that they were STILL meeting up at, at the time. Am I missing something here?

If its not a goof (not sure) all I can think is maybe Embry had changed dorm buildings during that time. Maybe he didn't live there anymore.
The building could have been gutted (it didn't fall into disrepair really, it was gutted so it could be torn down and a new dorm built), and that's why Embry had to move dorms and why he referred to it as 'the old place'.
