How would you rate Katie Holmes as an actress?

Personally I think she has very little range. She is more or less a one note actress, and she isn't entirely believable to me in any role. Her dialogue always sounds wooden no matter how good or bad the script. Thoughts?

Yeah I have to agree, she is crap.
I always thought she was, way back in Dawson's Creek. She does that half smile thing, like a smirk and I hate it. I can't watch anything if she's in it, it wrecks the film.

poizen-ivy, I HATE that half smile thing too. It's annoying, and she does it in every damn movie.

on a scal from 1 to 10... hmmm... I'd have to give her a negative 5. She's horrible.

I agree with you. For some reason, i was blaming it on her appearance. Her eyes are wide, large, and diagonal (i forget the word used to describe them) they are like Britney Spears, but I feel that it gives Katie a very tired look. It is appropriate for this movie, but not others.

And, now that is has been mentioned her dialogue does sound very wooden and I have only seen her in roles where she is supposed to play that natural, down-to-earth girl next door type, which is the only one she can play because her voice, face, mannerisms.

I'm surprised she has made it thus far. I give her a 3.

i agree with the OP. a lot of people find her attractive, but her talent or lack there of, really rubs me the wrong way. i can never buy into her roles. if it were not for her looks, i do not think she would be as famous as she is, save the marriage to the nutty scientologist. her acting always seems so contrived or forced, like a step above your local school play. i do not foresee longevity in her career, looks only last so long, particularly when one struggles with their weight.

I would also rate her as a negative 5, she's terrible. Her voice is annoying, sounds as if she's trying to be "cute" but it comes out as "whiny", she's completley emotionless as well as, expressionless. There's no inflection at all which makes her lines monotone and boring, as if she's reading a cereal box. And I don't find her attractive, she's not ugly but she's not the raving beauty that they always try to portray her as. I find her eyes disturbing, not just because they are so far apart but they also turn downward at the corners and she has scleral show or sanpaku (which means too much white is at the bottom of her eyes, so it always looks like she's looking up).

She is very good and most of the children on here should stick to video games.

I thought she did quite well in this film. Her stress/tension was palpable in many scenes.
I thought a couple of her happy scenes with Embry were a little cringeworthy though, she seemed to try too hard. When she grins almost maniacally at Embry when they are skating in the streets, I always cringe.

But she carried this film off well, better than I'd thought she would. She expresses sadness and woe very well.
