Sorry, I missed some parts of this movie, and--since I was catching it on TV--couldn't rewind.

1.) Was Embry a student at the university or a young faculty member?

2.) When the cop questions Gabrielle Union's character, Amanda, is she just working in a lab on campus? She is just a student, correct? How does she know so much about Embry's medications?

3.) Finally, what was the dilapidated building scheduled to be demolished and why was it being torn down?

You need to get TiVo!

1) Embry was a student.

2) Amanda is Katie's friend, also a student at the college. They are seen together near the end of the movie, in Katie's dorm-room.

3) I figured the dilapidated building was an old wing of the university, perhaps halls of residence (Katie refers to one of the "suites" in the old building when she is talking to Wade. I think...).

3. The building was McAlister Hall, Katie and Embry's former dorm. It had been in a severe fire, which you can see when Katie and Handler go inside the building on separate occasions. The fire caused enough damage that the school decided to replace rather than restore the building, which is why there are students (including Harrison) outside demonstrating for preservation.

It also had signs saying there was asbestos in it, which could lead to it being torn down.
