Back to the movie, the issue is I don't think Katie was very confident. It was supposed to be ironic how attractive men found her; she was completely unaware of the effect she had on them because she kept to herself and though she had some friends, was a loner. Obviously, Embry knew how to say the right things to her. She was lonely and he pushed just the right buttons. Looks are not a deciding factor in how many people you sleep with; it's confidence and knowing how to say the right things. It wouldn't surprise me at all if she were a virgin when she met Embry. Personally, I think she was.

Good point, Katie did seem shy. I do think she was aware somewhat of her effect on men though, she just seemed perpetually attracted to mysterious 'authoritative' guys.

Other than being insane, Katie's main trouble was she associated sex with love.
It should usually be this way, but with a lot of men (and some women) its got little if anything to do with love.
