contradicts parkour?

I find Yamakasi (both of them) horrible films when it comes to parkour....I mean they basically contradict the point of parkour....by that I mean parkour is suppsed to be a smooth flow of motion through a city and in the movies there's so much cutting (every other second) that it looks like a music videos...the talents of the actors are really diminished through this....plus, in these movies WIRES are used, a lot...cmon, that just kills it right there....parkour, if anything is against all these gimmicks (wires, stuntman, cgi, etc.)....both of these movies are more like a "pop" versin of parkour

just my opinion...there hasn't been a movie that completely captures parkour....banlieue came the closest (beautiful shots of david belle in the beginning without too much cutting)....but not close enough, for me....

Well, about the cuts. It is really hard to shoot PK-scenes accurately. I mean, you have to install cameras and camera-operators in place which are not really made for a human being to stand on. Maybe they'll get the hang of it someday, but since the idea of PK-movies is young, I say that we should wait for the things to come.

as for the wires: I have no idea where you saw wires, but I sure didn't see any..

But looking at even amateur videos of Parkour pratcicioners...they are way better than what I saw in the movie....the samplers from David Belle, Cyril Raffelli, and others just seem to capture parkour and the essence of it....in my opinion....

i'll double check the wires on the 1st one but on the second one ("sons of the wind") for sure they used wires in fighting and jumping....

There are wires used in the first scene where the Yamakasi climb the side of the building. They're not visible in the film, but if you watch the "making of", you can see them. The same with the huge jump off of the roof. Wires were used in that scene.

I read about this film, thinking that it would be very parkour-orientated, but I think Banlieue 13 is better for actual parkour stunts. There are some good ones in Yamakasi, but it did feel like the action was cut and edited too much.

have you watched jump london and jump britain both really good some really nice scenes

i've watched jump london, but not jump britain...you know where i can find the second one?

reply

It's a film, so the stunts are more or less faked. They need the cut to hide that.
