Executed in China?

This is the whole thing that bothered me the most. Even if the Chinese didn't think Bishop was working directly for the Americans there is no way in hell they would execute him for this. China was not an enemy at this time, heck, they were indirect allies against the USSR. While I'm sure he would have been given a lengthy prison sentence, the Chinese would have kept him alive out of political good will and as a bargaining chip. Countries do not execute each other agents at peace time, even with enemy spies. The US and USSR both captured dozens of covert operatives during the cold war. I can't think of one instance of captive being tried and executed, at least not officially.

During the cold war, the FBI traitor, Robert Hansenn was responsible for several spies being executed.

Eh, no. Robert_Hanssen is still very much alive(and hopefully rotting in prison).

The Rosenberg's were executed, but they were US citizens executed by the US. I do not doubt that China would execute one of it's own if they were caught spying, but in this case it was one country executing another's agents. That is a political hot potato.

If you will reread my post, I never said Hanssen was dead. I said Hanssen was responsible for the deaths of spies. I am very much aware of the Hanssen and Rosenberg's cases
