Well...in short, off the top of my head:

Pros:

Great music, great singing/dancing sequences, great costuming and sets.

PLENTY of funny and over-the-top/absurd characters.

Harmless funny rewatchable fun.

Cons:

It is definitely not "politically correct".

Damon Wayans doesn't do sexy/masculine as well as he does thug/gangsta.

Lisa Kudrow did not look her best (maybe a little tired and wrong hairstyle).

It could have been so much worse. Up until the moment where Lisa Kudrow raps (15 minutes in) it works as a somewhat subtle film with a fantastic cast. Then it all goes to hell really quick. I think people moreso hate the idea of the film, or how transparently out-of-touch it was even at the time of its release. It could have been much, much worse, but the cast does what they can with what awful little they have to work with.

There's much worse.

In a word: Yes.

TO put it another way, Men on Film would have given it the infamous no snaps.

reply

It isn't great but it definitely doesn't deserve to be in the bottom 100.

"Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch ?"

reply

Yes. One of the worst movies ever.

reply

You're absolutely right, it shouldn't be in the bottom 100. It shouldn't be listed at all. All copies should be burned and everyone who saw it should be lobotomized in order to erase the memory of this "movie." Calling it a bad movie is an insult to bad movies.

Twelve milkmen IS theoretically possible. Thirteen is silly.

reply

Yes. It's not even in the "so bad, it's good" category either. This was just a horrendous movie.

reply

Just watched it on tv.

I thought that there was only one stand out scene and that involves a boy band called Boys'R'Us singing about a gay one night stand. And that was pretty much the only point I laughed.

Other than that - I don't really know what the movie was trying to accomplish. I've read people saying that this film is 'satire' and while satire doesn't have to be humorous, you'd think that for a rom-com they'd throw a bit in.

It just came on TV for me too...but I had to turn it off.
Bad movie.

It has Emmy and tony award winners, it has a respected and highly qualified crew (composers, directors, screenwriter), a solid concept about a Manhattan Jewish socialite forced to work with the uptown ghetto rap scene..... YET absolutely nothing to account for. I'm offended that most of these people, including Jane Krakowsky and Chrsitine Baranksi whom I adore, are still involved in the entertainment industry. And it makes me wonder what exactly they thought was happening throughout production.
