Stupid Moves

**SPOILERS**

When the main character follows the first rapist we meet into the hallway to retrieve the pictures he's putting in her neighbors' door slots, why the heck didn't she run back into her appartment and lock him out? She had plenty of time. Plus, he let her leave for work, slept in her appartment while she was unbound and she NEVER called the police, or anyone else for that matter, for help! This makes no logical sense to me.

I've never been raped and can't begin to imagine the trauma of it. But, she had plenty of opportunities to leave and/or call the police. Was it because she was so ashamed? Even if others found out about her situation, the photos and video tape would prove she wasn't a willing participant. Or is this taboo in her culture that would ruin her reputation?

Granted I haven't finished watching the movie yet. But at the beginning of the film, when she didn't have any revenge plans yet, she makes some pretty stupid and unrealistic moves.

Anybody out there who can help me with her logic or lack thereof?

She didnt want anybody to know about the rape, I guess. She ran away from all of that.

Some people after being raped usually don’t say anything for awhile before revealing what had happened to them while others don’t say anything at all. In Chihiro’s case, she wanted to forget about the whole thing and move on to a normal life. She moved to Tokyo, met new friends and had a good relationship with Nogami, she didn’t want anyone to know about her past. She figured she could get threw the whole thing by getting rid of them, but everything just got carried away and was then pending on leaving the country. Of course Nogami showed up at her door in her new apartment and saw that there was still a chance at a life, but Nogami ended up being the fourth man that was apart of the rape. Instead of running from him, to avoid getting beat up, she let him do what he wanted. He was acting normal like the rest of the guys, thinking that she would forget about the whole thing, but she quickly took a shower and then killed him.

I think there are alot of girls in the world that this sort of thing happens to them, but they don't say anything. Perhaps their scared or they just don't want anyone to know about it. Some girls don't want to be looked at strangely, they just want to have a normal life.

How was Nogami involved in the rape? I figured she killed him because he found the bodies. She assumed he would freak out. This was another irrational move from a long line of irrational moves from her character. This is frustrating but not uncommon in horror films.

I actually yelled out at my tv about that! But it was mentioned that at least one of the guys was involved with yakuza, a LARGE organization of nasty, evil guys who in real life kidnap and rape girls all the time. In many cases, not much can be done because they have police/government connections, or people are simply too frightened of them, or in the cases of kidnapping the girls are just never heard from again. Maybe she knew or feared another would find her.

Well that was the beggining of the stupidity. If you analyze the premise it's ridiculous on more than that level. The fact is they are at wrong not her. So she has every right to phone the police to have them removed. As the other commentors have to touched on the ridiculousness of her action but if reverersed onto the shoes of the rapists it makes equally no sense.

The photos were incriminating not embarassing, if you found a picture of your neighbour being raped and you the man who gave you the picture was the one raping her in the picture, logically you phone police. Perhaps it is difficult to tell who is raping? Never the less, the logically reaction of the neighbor would be sympathy for her, not blame. Also it makes no sense for a person who commits a crime, gets away with it, to go out of your way to find that same person to repeat your crime. Logically if you raped someone, perhaps you might do it again, but why go to so much effort to find a previous victum? What's wrong with the girls in their neighborhood?

I think what the problem is the director takes way to many liberties in order for
1 insure his formula works
2 for us to feel sympathetic for her situation.

the fundamental flaw with a film like this one is the rapists have to be inherintly evil, and she has be at no fault. The film goes to great lengths to prove that she is completely inocent and that they are pigish men that are completely evil and deserving of their inevitable fate. The truth though is that every story has 2 sides and most things are a 2 way street. Bad men don't find your house to barge in, wreck your job, rape you, and demand a beer.
It reminds me of Pablo Fransisco joking about Jackie Chan films
"What's that your doing? Breathing? GET HIM!!"

Well, your complains just make sense if the police would help her. How would the police help her against mobsters? Asking them to leave, arresting them, placing guard on her door. For how long?

How incriminating were the pics? probably the pics show her having sex with three guys. If the first guy wasn't concerned and she was concerned, then the story is telling us that the pics are damaging to her not to them. Accept that.
