this actually is a great film... I think so!

I absolutely love this film, but I can't stand when people tell me that they won't watch it because it got shelved for a year before they finished it ... so what? I think all and all, it's an emotional story and I don't know any guy who would not go off like that if something happened to his wife... That was the great thing about this film, Vin Diesel's character AKA Sean Vetter is so believable that it grabs you and you really feel for him. I went and saw this movie when it was released in the Theater and I remember walking out despite the review I read in the paper that morning, thinking, you know what, no matter who judges or rates a film, I'll make my decision when I see it on how good it is. I give this a 7.5 out of 10, it is in my top 15 fav. movies of all time. And the scene when he is lying in the hospital bed and Larenz Tate tells him his wife is dead, you really do feel him you feel how he feels and I've always said that is important for a film's success.

I know. It was a great movie. Who cares what movie critics say?! I thought I was gonna cry when he was in the hospital and he started to go off like that!! It was sooo sad. And even though he was the "bad guy", Timothy Olyphant made some parts of the movie hilarious!!!! Like when he said "Theres a human being named Overdose?!" That was so funny!!!!!! Besides, film critics are too picky anyways.

Yea, I dont get why people always want to put Diesel down. I loved this movie. It's actually a good film with Vin in it. I love Diesel but some of his movies should have never been in theaters. After watching this movie I wanted to go kick someone's ass. I really felt what the main character felt.

reply

I liked the movie as well. There's so much hatred for Vin that doesn't make any sense at all. A lot of people will tell me I'm stupid for owning a lot of his films and yet they can never come up with reasons why, and when they do, I can usually make them watch the film (because people always complain about the movies they've never bothered to even watch) they usually shut up.

reply

finally, other people that agree. i love this film but the one thing i like about it the most is the fact that when his wife died, they didnt stick some other random chick for him to hook up with. i hate when they do that, so it was refreshing to see that he still loved his wife in the end.

"tommy can you hear me?!?"

This movie was a great film. Vin Diesel sure played his part in this movie. He was one dangerous guy in this movie. And I think it should be rated much higher. Maybe like in the 6 or 7's or something.

I liked the movie as well, that scene at da hospital was really touchin, and Imma have 2 admit Vin looked much betta than usual, he wasnt bald and all dat, he was cute, and of course Larenz Tate is soo fine

reply

I like the pic too. I think it should be around 6.3-6.5.

However, the fact remains that Diesel is TOO STIFF! WHen he is yelling in anger, or trying to intimidate, he just doesn't convince! I still like him as an actor!

reply

another thing that brings this movie down is the fact that it has been done MANY times before.

also, i didn't get .......SPOLIERS................................

the twist! HOw was Memo, behind it all????? He knew Diesel would take the Cartel down....which was still his. Diablo was Memo's right hand man, but killed his wife and son?!?!

Unless Memo didn't care, knew his right hand man would screw him, sacrificed his wife and son, knew Diesel would go vigilante, and would transfer him as to let him escape! That's a lot to "assume".

reply

Maybe Memo never really did like his wife and son... Nahhh.

reply

I like vin bald, but seeing him with hair and a go tee was a nice change. He should keep that look for a while, use it in an upcoming movie or something. Vin worked that hospital scene, he and larenz made it believable.

reply

I liked it! I thought it tried to get a little too clever with the twist at the end. But for what it was, I enjoyed it!

reply

I'm glad someone finally mentioned that goofy twist at the end! How in the world did that happen?!! The ending made me think Blair Witch...... Dumb.

reply

The original 'El Diablo' version is way better than this 'A man apart' version. I won't spoil it for you, but the hideous twist ending in the release version is gone. (actually the ending is entirely different altogether!)

Konnichiwa!

When you get older, you'll understand. Its just an action movie that was poorly cast, written, directed, edited and shot. It may have been a half-way decent film if they spent more of their budget on better actors and a better writing staff. But then it would be a different movie all together, wouldn't it? Maybe it would be a better movie if it were a different movie. The point is, that if you're going to try to watch this movie, you might as well watch the movies this is trying to be, like 'Traffic' or 'Heat' or any number of crime movies all of which are better than this.

To the defense of the writers of this movie...they're rookie writers and have an excuse for bad writing at the beginning of their career. Lets just hope it improves. There really is not excuse for Vin Diesel, though. He needs to start picking better roles soon, or he'll become another Chuck Norris, as one commenter so elloquently put it.

This movie kicks serious a$$, I think this is one of Vins best roles. Hella action got to love it.

Yeah, he's a professor... of being a dog!! Oooh, faced!

Now I am not gonna sit here and praise Vin diesel and say he is Awesome, In fact there are only 2 movies of his I absolutely love, Pitch Black, and A Man Apart! A Man Apart is such a moving story, and I just think that anyone who judges this movie poorly, I would love to know what movie you were watching... But finally, I found a thread where people agree with me how great this film is...

reply

I'm most likely older than you and what I understand is you don't have a clue what you're talking about and you're a pretentious twat.

i liked the film myself it was dark and hard hitting, vin diesel i thought played very well a unstable and volatile man detached from reality after losing everything that was important to him and the minigun scene that was cool i liked the line at the end "if i wanted you dead you would be".
