TWO survivors in the end?

I thought the beginning of the movie showed that only the girl would survive. And how could two survivors be allowed? That head of operations guy surely wasn't the only one around, so once he was killed the 2 kids could escape...there was a whole battalion of people around I'd thought.

Hi,
1) The beginning is not a 'flash-forward' - it showed a previous BR. The smiling girl at the start is named "Mai" iirc, and she 'won' the previous BR. She turns up again in BR2.
2) Kitano - the co-ordinator - sent all the troops away in the earlier scene and stayed back on his own. It is odd that he is able to do this - however he does seem to be in charge of the soldiers throughout. It's extremely probable that he figured/hoped they were alive and intended to die there. He definitely manipulates the game more than most people realise on the first viewing.

Hi, I'm rarely back here these days. Saw your reply on my phone before and meant to reply. i think you asked about mai and br2.
Basically, BR2 is the sequel. You can sometimes find it in shops. The theatrical cut was called "requiem" but there was also an extended cut called 'revenge'.

If I were hugely charitable I'd call the sequel "confused" - but being a dick, I just call it "crap."
[spoiler alert, but nothing you don't learn in the opening anyway]In short, it had survivors of BR (Shuya, Noriko and other former 'winners' including Mai) team up - weirdly in Afghanistan(?!) - to attack the government. The government calls them 'terrorists.' The films confusedly tries for a 'what is terrorism' message, and bizarrely blames a lot on 'that country' (heavily hinting at the US) for no reason I could ever figure out.
Then, when Shuya-bin-laden and pals set up on some island near Japan (why?!) rather than bombing the crap out of them, or sending in the marines, the government sends a new cohort of BR kids against Shuya as an attack squad (Whaaat?!) Oh, and just because they can the government also handicaps their own side by pairing the kids' collars so that if one gets killed in action, his 'partner' dies too. (WHYWHYWHYWHYWHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY????!??!?) And Kitano's daughter is one of the kids. (WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...!) Oh, and it puts this dude called Riki in charge, because... [mumbles]

But behind all the noisy obvious crap, there are a few good moments. Just don't expect something on a par with the first BR. Go in with your hopes low and you might find something in it you enjoy. Riki - the new program head - is memorable.

Thank you very much. I'm so used to being dismissed on the Internet that I figured you were just doing the same. I appreciate your response despite me dismissing YOU.

If by memorable you mean "the worst actor in known history" - id have to agree.

Seriously - anyone who HASNT seen the sequel should watch it just for his hammy acting. Utter balls. I was cringing the whole way through.

Too the OP. Fyi, there are people that come to these boards looking for general information that have NOT seen the movie. Myself included. I would have liked to find out there are 2 survivors on my own, but the title of your post revealed that instead. Thanks for that.

Be mindful in the future to not spoil the movie with your title.

"Too" the OP?? A bit strange sentence construction. 

In defense of the OP, the subject line ends with a question mark. If you (or anyone else) sees that you immediately wonder "are there two survivors or a different number?" In other words NOT a spoiler because you still don't know how many. If you really were worried about spoiling it before you saw the movie then you would have quit right there, not reading the thread.

IF it was spoiled for you then you did it to yourself.

SPOILER: There was only supposed to be one survivor but the boy and the girl conspired to both survive then escape and go on the run.

You are full of *beep* If this was a board for The Sixth Sense and I started a thread that said "he was dead the whole time?", the question mark at the end of the title wouldn't excuse the fact that I just gave away a big part of the ending.

It's common courtesy to avoid giving things away about the movie that you are posting about and you know it. Why else would everyone add the word "spoiler" to every thread that may indeed give things away? I'm not the only one who gets upset about spoilers in thread titles and I'm surprised I was the first to say anything.

"You did this to yourself". Get the *beep* over yourself. Excuse me for treading on your territory. In the future I will make sure to watch movies blindly without any research. Your right. Curiosity about the general feel of a movie before watching it is indeed a rookie mistake and I won't come back to the message boards until I become a seasoned pro like yourself.

You're welcome, I'm glad I could help.
