All over the hunger game board there is nothing but crap about how the hunger games ripped of battle royal so can we come on your board and continue to talk about how much better the hunger games did it?
Go ahead, it's not like it hasn't been done for literally years. Nope, you're absolutely the first person who ever had this idea, ever. By all means, show us what a mature adult you are by doing the very thing you're complaining about, because you most certainly won't be the millionth person to do so.
But seriously, please don't, we get Hunger Games fan trolls all the time even though the regular posters here haven't even touched the THG board, so don't punish us for what we didn't do.

May those who accept their fate find happiness. May those who defy it find glory.
Almost every post on the hunger games board is about this lame second rate Asian book/movie. The hunger games is a million times better so why don't you guys just stay on your own board
I love the hunger games book but i HATE the movie, I never read the battle Royale manga but i LOVED the movie, the hunger games movie didn't do its source material justice AT ALL, but battle royale DID do its source material justice
I think it was the way you phrased it! It sounded like you were saying the Manga was the "source material." I think that is what had Dessek raging.
The novel, of course, was the actual source material. The manga and film both derive from the novel, but have opposite takes on it. The film tones down a lot of the flaws and focuses more on the human reaction to this insane situation. The Manga really just goes all out for the densest concentration of gratuitous gore, sex, flying eye-balls and panty-shots you can humanly fit a plot around.
No, 'Lord of the Flies' created the genre, then 'The Knights of the Forty Islands'. They were both published years before BR. _____________ I am the Queen of Snark, TStopped said so. And I have groupies, Atomic Girl said so.
That view has it's merits, it's could also be rgued that Jonathand Swift's 'Gulliver's Travels' published 26 October 1726 was the first political dystopian novel, certain '1984' published in 1948 qualifies.

BR wasn't the first. It was the first for for some millennials but there were precursors. LOTF, '1984', 'Come and See'. Dystopian fiction has been around a long time. I remember an old Star Trek episode that featured children as the antagonists in the 1960's and the fact that it is adolescent's in BR that shocked that generation. I think it was shocking for the millenials though, it's like the thought that children could and would kill came as an unheard of thought. Unfortunately the reality of the world today makes that shock seem naive. _____________ I am the Queen of Snark, TStopped said so. And I have groupies, Atomic Girl said so.
Yeah, BR is definitely not among the first dystopias. To suggst that the whole genre is a mere 20 years old is utterly ridiculous. It's been around for centuries.
Worth noting thta 1984 is itself a ripoff. Not to say it isn't a great piece of literature, but the plot, characters, setting and themes are all extremely similar to those of abook called We, written 20 years earlier by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Orwell has admitted that he borrowed heavily from We, which essentially got a film version in Equilibrium (a film which is pretty much just a hybrid of We and Brave New World, another famous early 20th century dystopia).
I do hate to tell you this but you are not the dictator of the conversation. Also you don't have the last word in deciding what does and does not define a genre. You can voice your opinion, but that is all you can state...your opinion. _____________ I am the Queen of Snark, TStopped said so. And I have groupies, Atomic Girl said so.
It kind of depends on what you think "the genre" is. I don't really see many similarities between Lord of the Flies and Battle Royale, except there's kids on an island and violence. Battle Royale might owe more to The Most Dangerous Game, which is older. The author meanwhile claims to have been mostly influenced by Stephen King's work, especially The Running Man and The Long Walk.
And anyone who has to attack another work to make the work they admire look better, has a pretty poor argument to begin with. The novel 'Battle Royale' tells a very compelling story but it is too remote and chilly in the narrative style for me. When you have to hide what happens to your protagonists it sort of fails in the suspense factor, it sort of cheats the reader. I didn't like that, I didn't like it when Agatha Christie did it in '10 Little Indians'.
_____________ I am the Queen of Snark, TStopped said so. And I have groupies, Atomic Girl said so.
I am quite fond of Agatha Christie. She was not a great stylist but she was great in creating her plots and taking stock characters and using them in those plots. And I am very fond of her two great detectives. Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. I really love Miss Marple, Christie greatest defense against ageism. What I love about them is that their weapon of choice is their brains. So many people today just don't think things through to the end. Miss Christie did. I think it's BR greatest flaw, the story did not really have an climax, it just stopped. I found that frustrating, this great story did not have a conclusive finish. Even if the two main protagonists had been killed, it would have had some kind of resolution. But I understand that some liked this open ending, I just didn't. I also don't see too many people discussing this matter.

I think Marple lends herself very well to film, after all she does use stock characters and they can be molded into whatever shape the screenwriter chooses.

"Salty-ass". I don't know too many mature adults that use that term. Maybe it's time to look in the mirror if you want to find someone who is making themself look like a prepubescent 12 year old
